The R and D capacity of BSU in terms of its competent manpower, modest laboratory and infrastructure facilities, and wide experimental fields made the University one of the key players in the National Agricultural Research System. BSU has been as identified as an institutional member in nine National RDE Networks (i.e. vegetables, rootcrops, ornamentals, plantation crops, biotechnology, socio-economics, policy, communication, and extension.

BSU is a member agency and the host of the Highland Agriculture and Resources Research and Development Consortium (HARRDEC), one of the country's regional R and D consortia organized by PCARRD. In the course of its RDE activities, BSU has established linkages, some of which are the following:
