- Horticulture Research
& Training Institute (HORTI)
The HORTI was established by virtue of Presidential
Decree 2010 signed by then President Ferdinand E. Marcos on January
12 1986. It was conceived as a research and development arm of the
Benguet State University to accelerate progress of horticultural enterprises
in the Cordillera region and other highland areas.
- Institute of Highland
Farming Systems & Agroforestry (IHFSA)
The Institue of Highland Farming Systems and
Agroforestry (IHFSA) became operational on January 6, 1997. IHFSA
was a merger of the Instittue of Highland Farming Systems (IHFS) and
the Highland Agro-Forestry Institute ( HAFI). It also integrated the
existing Agro-Forestation Special Project located at Ampasit, Puguis,
La Trinidad, Benguet.
The Agro-Forestation Special project
was created on June 1, 1997 by virtue of MSAC Administrative Memorandum
No. 2, s. 1997 by President Bruno M. Santos. On May 16, 1984, the
Institute of Highland Farming Systems was established by President
Fortunato A. Battad as provided for in MSAC Administrative Memorandum
No. 17, s. 1984.
- Northern Phillippines
Root Crops Research & Training Center
The Northern Philippines Root Crops Research
and Taining Center was established by virtue of Presidential Decree
1107 at the then Mountain State Agricultural College in March 21,
1997. The Center is a semi-autonomous unit of the university, in the
sense, that its own Advisory Board will approve its programs and activities,
but it's personnel and budget (as identified in Internal Operating
Budget) shall be subject to the same University rules and regulations.
The Advisory Board is composed of the DA Secretary as Chair, the university
President, the PCARRD Crops Director or the DA-BAR Director and a
private sector representative. The Center has 6 technical sections;
namely Crop Improvement, Crop Management and Seed Production, Postharvest,
Processing and Utilization, Engineering, Social Science and Policy,
and Training and Extension.
- Institute of Social
Research & Development (ISRD)
The Institute of Social Research and Development
(ISRD) was formerly referred as to the Institute of Highland Policy
Studies and Socio-economic Research and Development (IHPSSERD), that
was established in June 1986. The Institute's name was changed in
a workshop of the IHPSSERD network members held in San Juan, La Union
on February 28-March 2, 2003 for easy reference. It was also in this
workshop that the vision, mission, goals, and objectives of the Institute
were upadated by the group.
