In a bid to enhance the existing programs and status of the College of Arts and Sciences, Prof. Aurea Marie M. Sandoval, Dean, requested   the CAS family to strengthen and reinforce the four-year development plans presented during the CAS Academic Council last November 16.

     Sandoval pointed out that the development plans are the blue prints of the college and a legacy for the university. She appealed to the faculty to actively involve themselves in the realization of these plans.

     CAS plans to centralize and legalize the sale of instructional materials/manuals to students, improve and update the CAS Learning Center with reading materials, audio-visual materials, book shelves, stands, cabinets for learning materials and others. Construction of a Speech Laboratory room with necessary equipment will also be established.

     The college will also apply for the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) accreditation after a survey is done and when the documents are available.

     In addition, Department of Biology proposes to enhance the Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science (BSES) curriculum/program and eventually apply for its accreditation, source out funds for scholarship programs for students and teachers and encourage the faculty to finish their graduate studies.

     Department of Chemistry, on the other hand, intends to upgrade syllabi in Chemistry courses, participate and/or present papers in local, regional, national or international seminar-workshops and trainings. It also aims to produce research studies in chemistry or in related areas and propel the faculty to finish their doctorate degrees.

     The Department of Humanities envisions the conduct of an English Entrance Examination to Foreign Students before they are admitted in a certain undergraduate degree program. Diploma in English as a Second Language ( ESL ) will also be offered to non-English major graduates to qualify them to teach English and the pending proposal to offer Bachelor of Arts major in English will be pursued.

     Mathematics-Physics and Statistics Department plans to submit an application for Center of Excellence in Statistics having the Bachelor of Science in Applied Statistics the first and only undergraduate program accredited to level III in the Philippines .

     Offering of Bachelor of Arts in Social Studies (BASS) is the main concern of the Department of Social Sciences. It is a double major degree program which is still dependent on the result of the survey to be conducted in various high schools in Benguet which will corroborate with the data from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on the demands for jobs.

     The five departments vowed to work in full force to better College of Arts and Sciences.
