The AACCUP accreditation team led by Dr. Manuel T. Corpus has officially granted the level III accreditation of the degrees BSA, BSN and DVM during the team's survey visit last November 28, 2007 . Other members of the accreditation team were Dr. Teresa SG. Valdez from the Tarlac College of Agriculture for BSA, Dr. Marilou B. Ong from Cebu Normal University for BSN and Dr. Medino A. Yebron from Central Mindanao University for DVM. The team evaluated the degrees in the areas of instruction, extension, research, faculty development and library. Dr. Macario D. Cadatal presented the BSA program, Prof. Evelyn B. Macasieb presented the BSN program and Dr. Joseph A. Dianso presented the DVM program. ^"BSU is lucky among SUCs, despite na kokonti ang nag-eenroll, we have not yet offered BSA free of charge," said Dr. Cadatal when he presented the degree program of BSA. On the other hand, Prof. Macasieb from the College of Nursing stressed that one of their objectives is to maintain three sections per year to maintain the quality of the BSN degree program despite the clamor of the community for them to admit more. "One of the things that we are proud of in the College of Nursing is that our Board Exam passing rate has always surpassed the National Passing Rate," she said. Accreditation lends prestige to member institutions, justified by the possession of quality standards and unremitting efforts to maintain them at high level. It helps parents decide which program will cater quality education to their children. It creates awareness to those engaged in education of the standards of excellence which they should strive to attain. It helps those proposing for funding and funding agencies discern what to program or project to support and how much funding is needed. An evaluated program will know its strength, weaknesses, and aspects that needs to be developed. The accreditation of curricular programs in the Philippines , particularly for state universities and colleges, is the main function of the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines, Inc. (AACCUP). |
