"Farming communities are now aware of the hazards of agro-chemicals. The results from the previous study on Health and Environment conducted at Loo served as a revelation for the farming and the whole community."

     This was according to Buguias Mayor Felicio K. Bayacsan during the MOA signing of Atok and Buguias LGUs with SLU and BSU last October 4, 2007 .

     The three agencies entered into an agreement to conduct a project at Atok and Buguias on the "State of Environment and Human Health in High-Input Agricultural Ecosystems". According to Hon. Mayor Felicio K. Bayacsan of Buguias, the results from the previous study on Health and Environment conducted at Loo served as a revelation for the farming and the whole community.

     For Buguias, the MOA signing was a renewal from the earlier MOA signing on 2004 entered to with former Mayor Nardo Cayat. Results of the research served as an eye-opener to local officials, farmers and the community. This prompted them to implement an ordinance requiring the Agro-chemical Companies to redempt their pesticide and fertilizer containers. To further assess the results and for a wider dissemination, the same research project will be conducted in other Barangays of Buguias.
