Twelve faculty members from the College of Arts and Sciences were selected by the Association of State Colleges and Universities-Solid North (ASCU-SN) as members of a team tasked to write standardized workbooks. These workbooks will be for the 16 state colleges and universities (SUCs) in Regions I, II and CAR.

     According to Zenaida V. Astudillo, member of the Technical Working Group of ASCU-SN, the basis of selection depended on the candidate's educational qualifications and major field of specialization, including the number of years they have been handling the subject.

     Of the 12 chosen team members from BSU, five came from the Department of Humanities, four from the Social Sciences Department, and three from the Math-Physics-IT Department. They are Salvacion Z.Beligan who will write for Statistics 101, Edna A. Chua for Math 101, Elvira G. Dines for Filipino 103, Geofrey S. Kidlo for Pol. Sci. 101, Cynthia T. Lubiton for English 101, Maribel Z. Palazo for Filipino 101, Noel S. Parinas for Philo. 101, Tecah C. Sagandoy for History 101, Myrna B. Sison for English 102, Gregorio C. Taag for Psycho. 101, Marilyn B. Toledo for Math 102 and Dominga S. Tomas for Filipino 102.

     The team is composed of 86 members picked from more than 150 faculty profiles submitted by the different SUCs. These workbook writers previously attended the "Training-Workshop in the Writing of Standardized Workbooks in General Education Subjects" held at the University of Northern Philippines in Vigan, Ilocos Sur last July 10-12. BSU is third among the SUCs having the most number of participants next to the University of Northern Philippines (UNP) and Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU) which had 14 and 13 faculty members chosen, respectively.

     The standardization of workbooks in 17 general education subjects offered at SUCs in Regions I, II, and CAR is one of the top projects being undertaken by ASCU-SN led by its president, Lauro B. Tacbas of UNP, supported by all SUC presidents of Solid North.
