| BSU Co-sponsors 2006 Adivay Celebration 11.03.06 - UPAO The University once again plays an active role in this year's Adivay celebration with most of the lined-up activities either being held in the BSU grounds or co-sponsored by certain sectors in the University. Members of the Administrative Council are encouraged to join in the Ecumenical Services, followed by the official Launching of the 106th Benguet Foundation and 2006 Adivay scheduled at 10AM on November 8 at the Ben Palispis Hall of the provincial capitol. On Nov 9, the Inter-agency sports tournament starts and will run until Nov 29. On Saturday, November 11, a “ Battle of the Western Country Band” will be held at 7PM at the BSU Closed Gym. On Nov 17, BSU students, led by members of the Supreme Student Government (BSU-SSG) will make the BSU fences more alive with the “Paint the Valley Highway ”. On Nov 19, the College of Agriculture (CA) will coordinate the conduct of photography and silk screening workshops. From Nov 19 to Dec 2, the College of Teacher Education (CTE) will be coordinating activities for the “Just for Kids,” where children will have an opportunity to socialize with other kids, doing activities like story telling, group singing, painting, wall-climbing, and having fun with games, at a minimal fee. This will be held at the BSU Sports Court. On Nov 20, the Agro-Industrial Trade Fair, which features the sale and exhibit of indigenous crafts and products, will formally open at the BSU Oval, and will run until Nov 30. From Nov 19-30, BSU welcomes kids and adults to the Nature's Park where for only PhP20.00 entrance fee per person, they can visit the insectarium, apiary, silkworm room, and the mini- museum. While in here, children will learn about how silkworms, honeybees, butterflies, and other insects interact with the rest of the creatures and nature. Likewise, visitors will get the exhilarating experience to trek beside coffee plantations and citrus bearing trees under the pines, enjoy the sight and sound of nature while perhaps having some picnic. A silkworm and bee products exhibit will also be put up at the Open Gym. And at 6PM on Nov 23, the 1st Benguet Silk Fashion Show will be held at the Closed Gym featuring local government officials, silkworm growers, and other local personalities donning originally designed outfits. On Nov 21, a Skills Olympics on cooking, bartending, waiting-on-table, and hairdressing will be held at the Open Gym with the Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Benguet Office coordinating the entire event. Nov 24 is a day for organic farming with a seminar on the subject at 8AM at the BSU-CA. On Nov 25, a food specialty competition dubbed “The Best of Benguet Dishes” will be held at the Open Gym. This will give participants as well as spectators an opportunity to discover a variety of ways to prepare several main courses using traditional products at the same time promote traditional farm products and showcase Benguet cuisine as a venue for entrepreneurial venture. Open to any interested individuals, the competition has two categories: professional and amateur. Participants must have registered and submitted their recipes on or before 9AM on Nov 25. Cash prizes await winners. On Nov 26, a carrot festival will be held featuring a competition, sale, and exhibit of carrot in dishes and other by-products like cakes and juices. Both of these activities on food and food preparation are being coordinated by the College of Home Economics and Technology (CHET). Other than the CHET, the NPRCRTC also coordinates the conduct of a forum on carrots on Nov 26 at the Solibao Hall. It aims to bring together farmers, processors, traders, consumers, researchers, extension workers, and educators to discuss issues on product competitiveness in the global market, vegetable importation, and exportation.
