"I think tourists come here because a visit to La Trinidad would not be complete without visiting BSU," says Prof. Jane K. Avila, director of the BSU-FPC. Of the 31 batches of visitors received and accommodated by the University Public Affairs Office (UPAO) from January to April 2006, 28% expressed their interest to see the BSU-FPC. |

Dr. Avila explained that what they do is improve traditional products like the peanut butter which is one of the most saleable products of the center along with strawberry preserves and ube jam. But they continue to conceptualize new products for the center like the yummy nuts. Aside from being a functional food processing center, the BSU-FPC also does research, instruction and extension. The most recent product of the center which is starting to attract buyers is Kimchi. It is prepared by Uk Lim, a.k.a. Jason, a food technology volunteer from Korea . Next to the BSU-FPC is the University's Research Technology and Research Laboratories (12%), the cultured mushroom project (12%), the pomology / fruit tree farms (8%), the strawberry farms (8%) and the University Library (8%). BSU visitors also expressed interest on the University Organic Farm Projects (4%), ICT program (4%), UNLAD program (4%), Agricultural Products (4%), Educational Training Programs (4%), silkworm production (4%), fisheries (4%), the healing gardens (4%), and the Northern Philippines Root Crops Research and Training Center (NPRCRTC) (4%). Visitors during the said period were mostly students (36.63%) and faculty (27.27%), although there were several batches of government officials (11.36%) and farmers (6.81%). |
