ILC Trains First Batch of South Korean Teachers
01.28.10 -JSTabangcura

"The BSU-International Language Center is privileged to give English training to 20 South Korean public school teachers from the Chungcheongbuk-do Office of Education after almost two years of negotiation.

“This is a breakthrough for us and the Philippines in general because it’s the first time we are training South Korean public school teachers,” said ILC Asst. Director, Prof. Corazon Bautista.

The teachers are on a one month training program from January 4 to February 2, 2010 which consists of 80 hours Intensive Functional English and 40 hours Teaching English as a Foreign Language. BSU faculty who are graduates of the 10 day TESOL Certificate IV course and the Training and Assessment IV course served as lecturers.

TESOL stands for Teaching English To Speakers of Other Languages which was offered by the ILC starting 2007. The offering of TESOL Certificate IV was made possible through the partnership of BSU, the Southern Cross International Language Institute and the Australian International Language Academy.

“I think we hurdled the test because the South Korean teachers are impressed by our lecturers,” replied Prof. Baustista when asked if there will be another batch of trainees to come.

The English training program for public school teachers was an offshoot of the MOU signed between BSU and the Chungcheongbuk-do Office of Education in August of 2008 during Gov. Lee, Kee-Young’s visit to the University.
