The Benguet State University has inked a Memorandum of Understanding with the Department of Agriculture-CAR to support the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) project, “Enhanced Climate Change Adaptation Capacity of Communities in Contiguous Fragile Ecosystems in the Cordilleras.”

The signing of the MOU was on January 25, 2010 at BSU followed by the review and planning workshop at the Child and Family Services Inc. in Baguio City on January 26, 2010.

The project aims to improve climate change coping mechanisms in the Cordilleras by improving the climate change coping mechanisms in the Cordilleras through pilot-tested schemes with national upscaling potential. After the project, it is expected, among others, that there will be a developed climate change vulnerability assessment tool and a multi-sectoral adaptation strategy for the Cordilleras.

As part of the MOU, BSU will be host to demonstration sites and its experts will monitor and evaluate the project status.

The project has a budget of US $ 950,000 covering Benguet and Ifugao. Other collaborating agencies are the LGU Benguet, LGU Ifugao and the Ifugao State University.
