“I wish BSU Could be Ranked One of the Top 20 Universities in Asia”-Sec. Angeles
01.18.10 -JSTabangcura

"BSU at age 24 is still young as an academic institution compared to other schools in the country, who I would say several notches behind in terms of performance and accomplishments in their mandated function. I wish several years or decades down the road, BSU could be ranked as one of the top 20 universities in the ASEAN region at least.”

This was according to CHED Chair, Sec. Emmanuel Y. Angeles in a message delivered by CHED-CAR Regional Director, Freddie T. Bernal  during the University’s 24th Charter Day Anniversary Opening Program on January 12 at the University gymnasium.
He also appreciated the Organic Agriculture Program of the University but tasked BSU officials for a more vigorous extension program.

“I am happy to note that the University is strongly pushing and is at the forefront for organic agriculture in its research, development and extension programs. I am also aware that BSU is a key player in the National Agricultural Research System and has extensive linkages in the international, national local government offices and private organizations,” he said.
BSU declared itself as a pro-organic university on September 14, 2004 and since then has taken steps towards attaining the vision of becoming a 100% organic University.

The secretary challenged BSU to give more effort on its extension programs.
“Much is to be desired in extension services of the University or the transfer and application of technology that contribute to the attainment of regional and national development goals.”
“It is ironical to note that while BSU leads in agriculture researches which could be translated into agricultural productivity if properly implemented, the Cordilleras still rank as one of the most impoverished regions with low per capita income and productivity,” he added.
University officials has responded to the challenge and admitted that the message is a wakeup call.

Exhibits and different awarding programs  were conducted for the rest of the celebration to showcase the accomplishments of BSU and the talents of its students.
