State University – College Red Cross Youth Council (BSU –
CRCYC) made it to the 7th Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations (TAYO)
for the Luzon area. It was the lone entry of CAR that will compete with
the 81 other organizations in Luzon.
“Alay Kapwa” is the entry of the organization to the TAYO.
Alay Kapwa is a yearly activity of the organization since 1995. Initially,
the project aimed to promote environmental awareness and preservation
through eco-hike to the remote areas in Benguet, eventually it evolved
into a community service endeavor.
In 2008, the project was conducted at Mocgao, Badeo, Kibungan. The place
is reached after a two hour ride from Baguio to La Union then a six
hour hike to Sagpat, Kibungan, Benguet. The adviser and the members
of the Organization lectured on family planning, first aid, care and
prevention of common illnesses to the adolescence and adults of the
community. Children participated in the demonstration of the proper
hand washing, tooth brushing, nail clipping, ear cleaning, delousing
and hair cutting.
Established in 1992, the BSU – CRCYC is the lone organization
awarded with the Hall of Fame by BSU for garnering the best organization
award for three consecutive years and the most Functional Organization
of the Year for SY 2007-2008.
BSU – CRCYC endeavors to develop in the students the spirit of
humanitarianism, volunteerism and social service by spearheading and
participating in the blood letting, safety and disaster management,
and community health and nursing programs.
It can be recalled that during the 6th TAYO, BSU Society of Scholars
and Grantees got the TAYO, the 3rd for BSU.
The Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations (TAYO) is a program spearheaded
by the National Youth Commission. It is an annual search and recognition
program for outstanding contributions made by youth and youth serving
organizations nationwide.
