once
again, BSU is inching its way to excellence.
This is after it was identified as one
of the National University/College of Agriculture (NUCA) for CAR under
the National Agriculture and Fisheries Education System (NAFES) of R.A
No. 8435, otherwise known as Agriculture and Fisheries Modernization
Act of 1997.
As stipulated in the Memorandum of Agreement signed by BSU President
Rogelio D. Colting and CHED Chairman Dr. Emmanuel Y. Angeles, the prestige
is mandated by CHED to promote quality and relevant higher education
in the country. This is done by establishing NAFES in the higher education
system.
The award was given by CHED as it recognized
the need to strengthen a select group of agriculture institutions of
learning to initiate and take the role in upgrading the quality of agriculture
education.
Apart from the prestige, CHED will provide
funding assistance of one million pesos (P 1,000,000.00) to BSU for
the implementation of programs/projects/activities in accordance with
the agreement signed by both parties.
It will also evaluate the results of the implemented activities; provide
technical and management assistance in enhancing BSU’s capabilities
to provide instruction and research, and extension; and establish ,
maintain linkages and provide mechanism for the sharing of resources
between and among various NUCAs and other higher education institutions.
Given the award, BSU is expected to hurdle specific tasks which include
the following: implement the programs/projects/activities agreed by
both parties; organize programs/activities that would satisfy its role
as NUCA in the region; develop instructional materials for agriculture
education and training; and undertake basic and applied researches in
relevant areas in agriculture in accordance with the needs of the region,
among others.
Dr. Belinda A. Tad-awan, the Dean of the
College of Agriculture, represented Dr. Colting during the awarding
ceremony on August 14, 2009 in Manila.
