Sanitary Landfill Eyed for Benguet by DOHWA Consulting Engineers

Engineers from the DOHWA Consulting Engineers Co., LTD, Korea’s oldest engineering firm visited the Benguet State University to present their preliminary studies on two sites in Benguet that can be turned into a sanitary landfill.

Mr. Yoon Jung Hyen, Vice-President of DOHWA Consulting Engineers Co. Ltd. expressed deep interest in finishing the feasibility study and giving technical assistance if ever the project will be approved.

     “We also had problems on sanitary landfills 25 years ago but we developed very quickly in 20 years because we have competent engineers,” said Yoon Jung Hyen as interpreted by Yoon Sung Min, Asst. Manager of DOHWA.

     The meeting attended by Alfredo C. Tipayno, BSU Vice President for Administration and the BSU Eco-waste Tag Team lead by Aurea Marie Sandoval, considered technical, socio-cultural and environmental issues that will possibly be met in the course of constructing a sanitary landfill.

     The meeting was also attended by Pura S. Molintas, Director of the Department of Tourism-CAR who is also member of the Economic Development Committee of the Regional Development Council.

     DOHWA Consulting Engineers Co., LTD is known for the Sudokwon Landfill design. The Sudokwon landfill is one of the largest landfills in the world.

     The same group under the Korean Consortium has inked an MOU with DENR-Region 10 and the LGUs of Bukidnon and Misamis Occidental for the conduct of a feasibility study for a sanitary landfill in September of 2008.
