PCARRD Grants 11M Fund to CAR
SUCs “Binnadang” Project 04.01.09 -JSTabangcura SUCs in the Cordillera led by the Benguet State University are the recipients of an 11 million peso grant from the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCARRD). The fund, turned over on March 23 at BSU is for the "Binnadang Among CARSUCs in Producing Organic Highland Crops: A Strategy to Enhance Employability of AFNR Students and Graduates" project. Prior to the funds’ turn over, a MOA for the implementation of the project was signed between PCARRD, the Highland Agriculture and Resources Research and Development Consortium (HARRDEC) and the CAR SUCs. HARRDEC will be the agency responsible for the release of allocated budgets to CAR SUCs out of the grant. The agency will also monitor and evaluate the implementation and performance of the project and ensure that specific work plans are achieved. Dr. Albert P. Aquino, Director of SERD-PCARRD and Dr. Melvin B. Carlos, the Program Manager of PCARRD AFNRPMO came to oversee the MOA signing and the fund grant turn-over. BSU and HARRDECC was represented by Dr. Rogelio D. Colting, BSU President and HARRDECC RRDCC Chair. The Mountain Province State Polytechnic College was represented by Ms. Henrietta Longbuan, Project Staff for Biofertilizer and the Abra State Institute of Science and Technology was represented by Dr. Glenn Soriano, Project Staff for Biofertilizer. The project under PCARRD’s "Program on Enhancing the Demand for Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources Graduates Through Science and Technology," is a series of Technopreneurial Learning Projects (TLPs) by CAR SUCs used as a strategy to enhance the employability of Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources(AFNR) graduates. There are four TLPs under the project which are organic strawberry production, organic highland vegetables production, biofertilizer production and potato-carrot-mushroom flours and products. The "Binnadang" project aims to; train 900 AFNR students and 100 AFNR graduates on entrepreneurship; 1,000 AFNR students/graduates that underwent actual enterprise operation in the 4 TLPs; 900 AFNR students that satisfied practicum/thesis requirement for graduation; implement the BSU Internal Guarantee System in organic strawberry and highland vegetables and eventual implementation in bio-fertilizer, fresh mushrooms, and potato-carrot-mushroom flours and products; and have at least 15 technical courses with entrepreneurial content (TCEC). "Binnadang," is a local term for big brother-small brother and cooperative relationship. CAR SUCs includes the Abra State Institute of Science and Technology, Mountain Province State Polytechnic College, Ifugao State College of Agriculture and Forestry, Apayao State College, Kalinga Apayao State College and Benguet State University. |
