ULIS book launching and book fair

The University Library and Information Services organized a book launching and book fair held on February 23-24, 2022 at the BSU Main Library.

Dr. Virgilio C. Ablaza’s first-ever book “Practical Guide in Doing Qualitative Criminological Research” was launched on the first day of the event. The book aims to bridge the gap between the knowledge and skills of novice researchers in using a qualitative approach in their research undertaking.

Dr. Ablaza is a faculty of the College of Criminal Justice Education at the BSU Buguias Campus.

Publication In-charge of Wiseman’s Book Trading, Inc Ms. Malou C. Flores presented the book of Dr. Ablaza. According to Ms. Flores, the book is a guide to research on qualitative techniques in criminology and is user-friendly

In his inspirational talk, BSU President Felipe Salaing Comila encouraged everyone in the University to share their knowledge and talent through writing a book.

Dr. Ablaza expressed his gratitude for the launching of his book. He thanked everyone who contributed to his success. He mentioned that the book was the product of his dissertation when he took his Doctor of Philosophy in Criminal Justice Education in 2020 at the University of the Cordilleras, Baguio City.

Dr. Ablaza shared his motivation in writing the book. “Nung nag-dissertation kasi ako, naghanap ako ng qualitative criminological research but locally wala akong mahanap, nasa abroad pero konti lang so our motivation is to come up with the book (When I was working on my dissertation, I was looking for qualitative criminological research locally but there was none, only a few in abroad, so our motivation is to come up with the book),” he said.

Dr. Ablaza also shared some of the challenges and professions of criminologists. According to him, conducting qualitative research is an in-depth way to address the challenges in the criminology field. He added that the quantitative method is commonly used by students and researchers and is not enough to address the increasing complexities of society.

“I hope this book would be my humble contribution to the profession in the field of criminology and hoping we will become more effective and efficient in addressing the challenges and complexities of our society,” said Dr. Ablaza.

As part of the program, a ribbon-cutting for the book fair was witnessed. The two-day book fair allowed the faculty members of BSU La Trinidad, Bokod, and Buguias Campuses to select titles, request titles, and submit these for procurement. //EMBawayan
