BSU Joins Launching of CHED, CARASUC Projects at IFSU

Benguet State University, led by President Felipe Salaing Comila, joined other state universities and colleges of the Cordillera Administrative Region during the launching of the four Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and Cordillera Administrative Region Association of State Universities and Colleges (CARASUC) Projects at the Heritage Convention Hall, Ifugao State University-Main Campus, Nayon, Lamut, Ifugao on March 24, 2023.

The projects launched were Cordillera Heritage 101, Project STORE or Skills Training On Rural Entrepreneurship, Masaganang Cordillera Project, and the CARASUC Hymn.

The Cordillera Heritage 101 is a three-unit regional elective course that will be integrated into the curriculum of all Higher Education Institutions in CAR. The subject will give students a better understanding of the Cordillera's history and diverse culture. It also intends to promote the preservation, cultivation, and protection of the region's heritage through an educational platform.
In BSU, the integration of the said subject into the degree programs offered at La Trinidad, Bokod, and Buguias Campuses was approved by the Board of Regents, with BOR no. 309, s. 2022.

On the other hand, the Project STORE, originally conceptualized by BSU, aims to strengthen the region's entrepreneurship to compete in the country's growing business arena.

In addition, Masaganang Cordillera, a project spearheaded by IFSU, intends to create a community model farm for sustainable food production that locals can replicate and develop the area for agricultural tourism and conduct ongoing research based on regenerative agriculture principles. President Comila showed interest in this project by expressing his support and commitment.

Moreover, the CARASUC Hymn was performed by the Mountain Province State Polytechnic College (MPSPC) Minstrels. CARASUC is the first and only association of universities and colleges of the country to have a hymn. Tapped by the MPSPC, Rev. Father Daniel P. Cariño of the Cathedral of all Saints in Bontoc, Mountain Province, composed and arranged the hymn.

CHED-CAR Regional Director Dr. Demetrio P. Anduyan Jr. and CHED Commissioner and BSU BOR Chairperson Dr. Marita R. Canapi extended appreciation for successful projects and to everyone involved.

The event was also participated by MPSPC President Dr. Edgar G. Cue, Kalinga State University President Dr. Eduardo T. Bagtang, University of Abra President Dr. Gregorio T. Turqueza, Jr., DepEd-CAR Regional Director Dr. Estela P. Leon - Cariño, NEDA CAR Regional Director Dr. Susan A. Sumbleng, NCIP CAR Regional Director Atty. Atanacio D. Addog, Dr. Randy A. Cabilatazan of Apayao State College, and Ifugao’s Governor Representative Agustin C. Calya-en.

Along with Dr. Comila, other BSU officials who attended the launching ceremony were Finance Division Chief Administrative Officer Atty. Andres Arnold Wadingan Lampacan, La Trinidad Campus Executive Dean Dr. Eugene Sinadcop Lumasok, Special Assistant to the President for International Relations and College of Social Sciences Professor Dr. Stanley F.
