Placement and Alumni Unit
The Unit acts as a liaison between graduating students and the employment agencies, as well as coordinating with the alumni.
Functions:
• Keep a database of the University graduates, survey of employment needs, and conduct follow-through research on the status of its graduates;
• Establish linkages with employment agencies both government and private institutions;
• Initiate placement activities like Pre-employment Orientation Seminar(PEOS) and Jobs Fairs;
• Facilitate the implementation of the Special Program for the Employment of the Students (SPES) and the Student Assistantship Program (SAP) as placement assistance mechanisms for the poor but deserving students;
• Perform other functions mandated under the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) in coordination with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Bureau of Local Employment;
• Conduct relevant research in line with the functions of the Unit.
Programs and Services
1. Public Employment Service Office (PESO):
Republic Act No. 8759 provides the legal mandate for PESO as a facilitating office in providing labor market information to its constituents and the significant others within the community. It is an “Act institutionalizing a national facilitation service network through the establishment of Public Employment Service Office in every province, key city and other strategic areas throughout the country.” It aims to ensure prompt, timely, and efficient delivery of employment facilitation services. 2. Pre-Employment Orientation Seminar (PEOS) and Jobs Fair:
The conduct of PEOS and Jobs fair purports to address concerns contributory to the success of graduating students. It is specifically aimed at assisting graduates in facilitating their transition to the world of work.
Topics for PEOS include the following:
a. Application Letter & Resume Preparations
b. Job Interview Enhancement
c. Rights & Privileges of Would-Be Workers
d. Applying in the Private and Government Sector/Agencies
e. Application for Licensure.
3. Special Program for the Employment of the Students (SPES):
The commitment of Benguet State University in its participation in the SPES purports to help poor but deserving students to continue their education through gainful employment pursuant to R.A. 7323. It has committed to employ 35 students for a 30-day work during summer and pay the 60% counterpart of their daily wage rate of PhP235.00. The total budget allocated for this purpose amounts to PhP145,530.00 annually.
4. Student Assistantship Program:
It aims to provide gainful employment to poor and deserving students while enrolled to augment their financial resources.
Qualifications:
a. At least 16 years of age;
b. Enrolled with at most 15 units inclusive of NSTP and PE;
c. No failure, INC and dropped marks in the preceding semester for previous student assistants; and
d. With at least 3 hours but preferably 4 hours continuous vacant period a day.
