2. RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
A. 166 RDE programs/ projects were implemented with funding/ grant from International (Belgium and Canada) and national funding agencies.
* 73 Completed
* 52 continuing
* 41 new projects
* R&D funds were also received from Senator Edgardo Angara and former Congressman Samuel Dangwa.
B. New R&D Center established in BSU thru BOR Resolution No.1837 series.2009
* Cordillera Organic Agriculture Development Center
Objective:
- Organic Agriculture Education
- Organic Agriculture Research and Extension
- Organic Agriculture inputs production (compost, vermicompost, FPJ, etc)
- Organic Agriculture Market
* The University Organic Farm (with Dr. Jose Balaoing as Project Leader) was certified by the Organic Certification Center of the Philippines (OCCP) starting November 23, 2010.
- The first academe-based organic farm with organic certification in the Philippines.
- Crops: vegetables, strawberry, herbs, etc.
- Area- 1.5 hectares
C. RDE Facilities Upgrading
* Coffee Processing center to be inaugurated on January 13 with funding support from Rocky Mt. Café-Philippines/ Canada
3. EXTENSION
A. R&D results are disseminated in various media

B. Special Extension Projects
AREC (Affiliated Renewable Energy Center) under the College of Engineering and Applied Technology in partnership with the Department of Energy (DOE)
-Rehabilitated community based microhydro systems (2 in Ifugao and one in Tawangan, Kabayan, Benguet)
-The “Renewable Energy Demonstration Park” was commissioned in the 3rd Quarter of 2010 located at CEAT Research Farm; BSU it showcases two Renewable Energy (RE) systems:
1. Photovoltic Solar for water pumping
2. Wind Turbine generator for battery charging
Note: AREC received the “Everlasting Award” for 2010 by Benguet Province during the Benguet Foundation Anniversary thru “adivay” on November 23, 2010.
* Bamboo Development Programs for environmental management and livelihood
* ICT (Information and Communications Technology)Technical Assistance project with CICT-HCDG to DepEd High Schools
- Internet for public High Schools (iSchools Project) which provides internet laboratory with a network of 20 computer units in each recipient public high schools (PHS)

1 PHS in Pangasinan
7 PHS in Aurora province
-eSkwela project- development of learning modules in digital format for the Alternative Learning System (ALS) of DepEd.

4. ADMINISTRATION AND GOVERNANCE
A. Financial Management
The SUC budgets have been the subject of reduction for 2010- government subsidy for Capital outlay (including 2011 budget)
* SUCs have to undertake income-generating projects to support its operations.
B. General Services
* Human Resources Development
-10 faculty members completed graduate studies (5 PhDs, 5 Ms/ MA)
-Several faculty members received various awards from award-giving agencies
-Seminars/ Trainings for faculty and staff
*Infrastructure/ Buildings- continuation of the covered walk connecting academic buildings
C. Special Projects
* PIUC Project (with SLU) 10 years program funded by the Belgian Government: Phase-out activities are being undertaken
* BSU Solid waste Management Program
D. Networking
* National Chung Hsing University, Taiwan- one BSU staff completed MS Degree in 2010
* Hebei Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences, China and CLSU
* Princess of Naradhiwas University, Thailand- faculty Exchange program; student exchange program
* Singapore with PUNP; start with OJT of entrepreneurship students
* Canada with SIDC for OJT of students in Veterinary Medicine and Agriculture
* Chungbuk National University, South Korea- 2 BSU scholars pursuing PhD and 2 BSU faculty teaching English Language in CBNU attached High Schools
* University of Kassel, Germany- 2 Faculty members attended the First Phase of the “Dialogue on Innovative Higher Education Strategies Training Course.”
